A lawyer, on Tuesday, had the unfortunate experience of formally informing the court that her client is dead.
“Unfortunately, he has passed,” Nellien Bute told Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias at the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday when a case against Kamari Neptune was called up.
Neptune, a Campden Park resident, who was out on bail on an ammunition possession charge, was shot and killed in Redemption Sharpes on Dec. 29, 2016, becoming the 39th of the nation’s 40 homicide victims last year.
He was at the time out on bail on an ammunition charge.
Browne-Matthias had cause to refer to Neptune’s demise later on Tuesday as she sentenced Diamond resident, Keon Scott, to four and a half years in prison for possession of a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver and six rounds of .38 ammunition, without a licence.
She told Scott that there was someone who should have appeared before her on a similar charge and is not here anymore, a reference to Neptune’s death.
