When St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College lecturer, Shefflorn Ballantyne, started writing his new book, “Surviving Grief and Loss”, a few months ago, he obviously had no idea that he would be dedicating it to the family and friends of three Vincentian college students who lost their lives in a fatal accident on Jan. 29, 2017.

The students — Aziza Dennie, Daneé Deverey Horne, and Carianne Lebrara Padmore – were killed in a car crash in Barbados.

They were in Barbados on an internship as part of their final year hospitality and culinary art programmes at the Division of Technical and Vocational Education of the SVGCC.

Ballantyne, a minister of the Thusia SDA Church in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and lecturer in accounting at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, said he hopes that the words in his book would bring comfort to the broken heart of many by pointing readers to the Divine Source of comfort.

“Surviving Grief and Loss” comes on the anniversary of Ballantyne’s first book.

The 70-page “Surviving Grief and Loss” explores various personal experiences of the author in handling grief, God’s perspective on this subject, how to find meaning and purpose for our lives in spite of our personal loss and practical ways of handling grief and loss.

The ebook will be launched online on Sunday and will be available on Amazon in kindle format for free for two days until midnight Monday.

Readers will also have the chance to download a free seven-day daily devotional as an added bonus.

“Surviving Grief and Loss” will be available in paperback format at local bookstores by the end of April.

SHEFFLORN BALLANTYNE is a Minister of the Thusia SDA Church in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also lectures in accounting at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College.

  1. We Vincies sure “publish” a lot of books. Too bad, most of them, including most of those written by our leader, are self published (also known as “vanity press”) or published by mom-and-pop local operations no one has ever heard of, a topic about which I will soon have much to say.

    1. As for my own contributions on this site and others like it which post anything that is not libellous, profane, or pornographic, I do not consider them genuine publications in the sense of material that has been carefully vetted for its quality and intellectual worth along the line of editorials that are printed in the leading newspapers of the world.
