Kemelia Boyd, the reigning Miss Police, has done herself and the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police proud by placing first runner-up in the 2017 Regional Police Queen Show held in the British Virgin Islands on April 1.

Boyd, a detective at the Criminal Investigations Department, earned the right to represent the local police force at the regional pageant when she won the local segment on Nov. 4, 2016.

She settled in second position behind her Vincentian compatriot, Jeoverne Webb, who copped the title. Webb worked as a police officer in SVG, before she was enlisted as a police officer in the BVI.

Webb is also the reigning police queen in the BVI.

Boyd said she is satisfied with her overall performance, adding, “I represented my police force and country to the best of my ability.’

She said it was a pleasure to be an ambassador for her country and the police force.

“Opportunities of these nature are very few so it was with great pride and humility. I represented the blue, yellow, and green,” Boyd said.

Boyd, who was also voted Miss Congeniality, also won best talent, best police future wear, and best evening wear.

“I am very satisfied with placing second although I was very confident that I would have been crowned queen,” Boyd said.

She quipped, “However, I can’t be contestant and judge at the same time. The standard of the show was high so I am comforted by the fact that even though I am not the regional queen, I am still the queen of my police force, which is a great accomplishment.”

She said the preparation for shows of this nature has developed her emotional intelligence and afforded her the opportunity to learn about herself, her strengths and areas for improvement.

Boyd stated that she was always confident of her chances of winning the pageant.

“I knew my ability and had a fantastic team working along with me so I knew my performance would have been excellent,” said Boyd, who became a police officer on Dec. 31, 2008.

She used the opportunity to praise her team, which was comprised of Superintendent of Police, Kamecia Blake-Byam, and Police Constables Sonia Olliver and Zamfair Adams. She also expressed thanks to Wendy Bynoe.

Commissioner of Police, Renold Hadaway, has congratulated Boyd on her achievement.
