The government will, this year, award exhibition university scholarships and an equal number of bursaries to students who complete associate degrees at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College.

The decision will create some level of equity as scholarships had previously been awarded only to students who pursued advanced level education, rather than the higher level associate degrees at the institution.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves made the announcement on Independence Day – Friday– while addressing the military parade at Victoria Park, Kingstown.

The announcement came two days after the government presented 29 scholarships, exhibitions, and bursaries during a rally at Victoria Park to graduates of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Education programme delivered through the Community College.

Gonsalves said that there will be six special awards in order of merit for the 2017 associate degree from the Community College.

“Three of these will be exhibition university scholarships and three of them will be bursaries.”

  1. Eighty percent female in the photo. Our males have slowly become pathetic loser over the past 40 years. No wonder many of them prefer to zammie.

  2. Anthony Stewart says:

What is the basis for the award of scholarships? Is there fairness in the award of these scholarships? Should scholarships be awarded based on the current country’s need? What are our priority needs? Do all students entering our Community College have a fair chance of gaining a scholarship? Should graduates of the Nursing, Tech/Voc, Police be listed among the awardees? How do we benefit from the graduates of past scholars? How can our secondary schools better prepare our students for our Community College so that they can maximize their chances of gaining a scholarship in their area of interest?
