Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves on Thursday gave what he presented as the “facts” surrounding the arrest and charge of former model Yugge Farrell, who has since alleged that she had a sexual relationship with his son, Minister of Finance, Camillo Gonsalves.

And while Gonsalves criticised the media for getting “basic” facts wrong, he, too, got some of the basic facts incorrect.

He called out Kenton Chance of iWitness News for reporting, as relayed in court, that the incident occurred at Prospect.

The prime minister, however, said that the alleged incident occurred in Kingstown.

But the prime minister was not without flaw in his recounting of the “facts”.

He said that the alleged incident had occurred on Friday, but, according to the charge brought against Farrell, it allegedly occurred on Thursday.

The prime minister, who is also Minister of National Security and Legal Affairs, did not comment on the fact that the charge sheet had an incorrect address for the accused woman.

Her address was listed as Ottley Hall, but she is in fact from Lowman’s Bay.

Farrell, 22, was charged that she used abusive language, to wit, “you dirty b***h” at Karen Duncan-Gonsalves.

Duncan-Gonsalves is the prime minister’s daughter-in-law as she is his son, Camillo’s wife.

During the Jan. 5 arraignment, Magistrate Bertie Pompey granted the prosecution’s request to have Farrell sent to the Mental Health Centre for a two-week evaluation.

The Crown gave no reason to support their application but the magistrate granted the request notwithstanding strenuous objection by Farrell’s lawyer, Grant Connell, who acted pro-bono on the woman’s behalf.

  1. This is what I call superb journalism, thanks IWN excellent job, absolutely brilliant.
This must be one of the best pieces of reporting I have read from any source in a long time. Check the facts always not the fast talking.

    Thanks IWN

  2. What I would suggest is that he seeks lessons from his superior Connell Grant who will put him right how best to protect his son and the dynasty, or at least tell him where to go.
