Several units of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVPF), businesses, and non-governmental organisations are engaged in a fire fighting training programme being conducted by GlobalFire, a charitable organisation based in Ontario, Canada.
The training course is an initiative of Fitzgerald Huggins, St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Consul General to Canada.
The Fire Department, Rapid Response Unit, Special Service Unit, Traffic Branch, Criminal Investigations Department, Port, outstations of the RSVGPG along with participants from the SVG Red Cross, Teachers Credit Union and the Argyle International Airport will conclude the training on April 17.
The participants will receive specialised training in search and rescue, steep bank rescue, urban search and rescue, rescue from buildings, entanglement, emergency medical technician training (EMT), first aid, fire burns, confined spaces, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) awareness and ropes and knots.
GlobalFire delivers basic fire fighting and pre-hospital emergency medical care training to members of volunteer and professional fire fighting organisations in developing countries, in order to enhance fire protection and emergency medical services in the local community.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines is the 81st Country to receive this training.
Receiving training and being well trained are not the same thing, as the amount of training received by our police, including near corinuous workshops and seminars, clearly shows.
