At 11 p.m. Sunday, Tropical Storm Isaac was upgraded to a hurricane, making it the fifth hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

As of 5 a.m. Monday, Hurricane Isaac was located near latitude 14.7 North; longitude 42.7 West, or 1,230 miles east-northeast of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. The estimated minimum central pressure is 993 millibars.

Isaac is moving towards the west near 13 mph (20 km/h).

On the present forecast track, Isaac is forecast to move towards the northern section of the island chain by late Wednesday.

Some strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours. However, the system is forecast to weaken by the middle of the week as it approaches the northern Lesser Antilles.

Hurricane Isaac is a compact hurricane. Hurricane-force winds (74 mph and more) extend outward up to 10 miles from the centre, and tropical storm-force winds (39 to 73 mph) extend outward up to 45 miles.

Forecasters are advising residents of SVG to keep informed on the progress of Isaac and pay close attention to information being issued by the SVG Meteorological Services.
