Residents of Rose Place have praised St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard for their swift action in assisting a fisherman in distress.

In a letter from the Goodwill Fisherman’s Co-operative Ltd., residents of Rose Place, Kingstown, expressed their appreciation to Brenton Caine, Commander of the SVG Coast Guard.

On Nov. 22, about 1:45 p.m. a fisherman who experienced difficulties at sea on the western side of the Fort Charlotte Point was swiftly rescued after contacting the Coast Guard for assistance.

The Coast Guard officers returned the fisherman to Rose Place after the rescue.

The letter said the prompt and effective response from the Coast Guard averted a situation that could have possibly ended tragically for the fisherman.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Colin John, along with the rank and file of the Police Force joins with the fishing community of Rose Place and commends Commander Brenton Cain and the rank and file officers of the Coast Guard Service for the diligence and bravery exhibited in executing their motto ‘Dedicated To Saving Lives’,” the Police Public Relations Department said in a statement.
