The New Democratic Party was received into membership by the International Democrat Union (IDU) last Saturday.

The party’s application for membership was reviewed by the IDU’s Executive Board and a presentation was made on behalf of the party by Nick Francis, advisor to the NDP Young Democrats and Secretary General of the Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU).

NDP president, Godwin Friday expressed gratitude to the IDU board for accepting the party’s application and looks forward to full participation and contribution in future IDU related activities.

“This was a great day for the New Democratic Party as we continue to form important partnerships and espouse the principles of freedom and democracy in our region and internationally,” Friday said.

The IDU is the leading global alliance of centre-right political parties and works to provide individuals throughout the world with the best conditions for political liberty, personal freedom, equality of opportunity and economic development under the rule of law.

This clarification of the mandate of ‘The IDU’ to being >>“the leading global alliance of centre-right political parties and works to provide individuals throughout the world with the best conditions for political liberty, personal freedom, equality of opportunity and economic development under the rule of Law.” Make me wander of its affiliation with the Republican party of the USA. My concern to what is up-to-the-minute controversies regarding the US 2015 election.
America is just a bigger country but same ‘election crisis’ with the ongoing Mueller Report. Canada’s Stephen Harper (seen in the pic with Dr. Friday) is a conservative leader similar to the Trump’s Team; of which Harper’s daughter is the AG of the Doug Ford PC leadership in Ontario, the Party currently have implementing cuts to programs such as:- Toronto Public Health, Cap on Trade program, Green house Ontario Fund, funding for school repairs, prescriptions for children and young adults, hiring freeze for public servants and most major education, all affecting mainly the less privileged and working class.
I wish I can identify the added value in the SVG NDP membership with the IDU.

    1. HMMM …….MY SUSPICIONS WAS JUST AS YOU DESCRIBED UNFORTUNATELY ……… WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN HOPE WE ARE READY TO TAKE THE FUNK ….COURTESY OF THE NDP .
      REMEMBER I TALKED ABOUT THE ” MONROE DOCTRINE ” ……TAKE HEED !!

I will like to correct that the ‘AG of the Doug Ford PC leadership in Ontario’ is the daughter of the previous leader of Canada’s PC party and not that of Stephen Harper’s who took over from the AG’s father Brian Mulroney. All of the Progressive Conservative party of Canada…….My question is what’s the added value for SVG NDP becoming a member of Conservative Canada, The Trump’s regime?.

  2. I must first declare to the reader that I am not a card carrying an N.D.P supporter, since they really do needs to raise their game, but as a Vincentian concerned with this creeping imposition of a “family ruled socialist dictatorship” here, I would say Elma Gabriel, perhaps it’s time for you to dust off that copy of Adam Smith’s Book titled “An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations.” https://www.ibiblio.org/ml/libri/s/SmithA_WealthNations_p.pdf The U.L.P under its leadership of the Gonsalves family, with its ideological base in Cuba are making “dependent children” of us here in SVG.

Wealth we know must first be generated before it could be shared, and even though some countries in the world were blessed with mineral wealth, the wholesale mismanagement and squandering of the capital thus earned from it, will always prove to be most foolish indeed, as is now in the case in point with Venezuela.

There are other options available to nations other than that failed ideology known as socialism!

Dictatorships, no matter how cloaked, have never worked for those being dictated to, and neither have they ever been the engine of wealth creation in any nation so far.

    1. James H, neither am I a card carrying N.D.P supporter, nor ULP. However, someone has to lead the island through a period which I deem the bubble. NDP becoming a member of Conservative Canada, connected to the Trump’s regime is a game we do not wish for to pilot an already drifting bubble.
