St. Vincent and the Grenadines is considering dates for the opening of its embassy in Taiwan, scheduled to take place this year.
“… we are working out some dates when I can go to Taiwan,” Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said Wednesday at a joint press briefing with Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jaushieh Joseph Wu, in Kingstown on Wednesday.
“There are some dates which I suggested to our foreign minister and which he suggested to the Taiwanese ambassador here when I will visit and hopefully to open our embassy.”
Gonsalves noted that there are a lot of Vincentians studying in Taiwan, adding, “and we have to put something in place.
“And all these go toward further strengthening our relations. St. Vincent and the Grenadines, I reemphasise, we are friends of everybody, all nations, we have no enemies and we don’t look for any,” he said in the speech in which he noted that while SVG does not have diplomatic ties with China, they have to work together in regional and international fora.
“The world is hostile out there and we have to do the best we can in using our instruments of sovereignty and independence to meet the challenges in the external political economy, and to do so in the most efficacious ways in the interest of our people’s humanisation,” Gonsalves said.
“That is a fairly straightforward and I think sensible and mature proposition. And we will have differences with even our friends on this or that issue, but, we are friends and the other countries which we don’t have diplomatic relations with, we agree with them on many issues and disagree with them on others and those things on which we agree in a sensible mature manner,” he said.
