President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo arrives in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) today, Wednesday, for a two-day official visit.
The visit forms part of a tour of the Caribbean that includes stops in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and Jamaica.
The West African leader’s delegation includes Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.
Akufo-Addo will arrive to a welcome parade and guard of honour at Argyle International Airport at 10 a.m.
From 11:15 a.m. to 12:22 p.m., he will deliver a public lecture at the SVG Community College.
The West African leader will speak on the topic “The historical linkages between Ghana, Africa and the
Caribbean, as Ghana celebrates the ‘Year of Return’ to commemorate 400 years since the first slaves left Ghana for the Americas.”
The audience is expected to include students, business executives, representatives of civil society and the Ghanaian Association in SVG.
At 2:15 p.m., a special one-hour sitting of parliament will take place in celebration of the visit.
Akufo-Addo will also participate in a tree-planting ceremony at the Botanical Gardens in Kingstown, the oldest in the Western Hemisphere.
At 4:15 p.m., at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kingstown, the president will meet with Ghanaians
He will then meet in private with Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, ahead of a joint press briefing.
A reception will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister.
Akufo-Addo will tour AIA on Thursday before departing SVG.
Ghana and SVG established diplomatic relations on Aug. 1, 2008.
Since then, both countries continue to strengthen the relationship to foster greater prospects for trade, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation in oil and gas, agriculture, education, health and tourism, as well as investment opportunities, the Agency for Public Information said.
Gonsalves made an official visit to Ghana in November 2018 as part of the process of cementing deeper cooperation with the African continent.
The Ghanaian President’s visit to SVG will seek to further deepen existing diplomatic relations.

My friend Karim once told me that they do not consider Indians from Guyana and Trinidad real Indians just as my university school mate from Ghana once told me that Caribbean blacks are not real Africans a but a hybrid race. The time according to science that humans were believed to have come out of Africa was dated as between 1 & 2 million years ago. Such information has long been surpassed, with evidence of humans in the Americas before that and also in Israel. But in 2017 further information has it that carbon dated bones from the Mediterranean areas are over 7 million years old.
