Candidates from St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) registered a 90.66% pass rate in the May/June 2019 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) according to preliminary results released by the Ministry of Education.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Myccle Burke said this represents a slight decrease, compared to the 2018 results, when there was an overall pass rate of 91.04%.

Candidates returned 100% passes in 10 of the 23 subject areas.

They are: art and design (unit 2), biology (unit 2), Caribbean studies (unit 1), French (unit 2), geography (unit 2), integrated mathematics (unit 1), literature in English (unit 2), physical education and sports (unit 2), physics (unit 1), and Spanish (unit 2).

There was a pass rate of 80% and above in several other disciplines, namely:  biology (Unit 1) 94.94%; chemistry (Unit 1) 96.15%, chemistry (Unit 2) 92.31%; communications studies (Unit 1) 95.21%; computer science (unit 1) 86.36%, computer science (Unit 2) 95.74%; digital media (Unit 1) 85.19%; economic (Unit 2) 91.84%; environmental science (unit 1) 93.75%, environmental science (unit 2) 95.35%; French (unit 1) 88.89%; geography (unit 1) 96.88%; green engineering (unit 1) 92.31%, green engineering (unit 2) 89.47%; history (unit 1) 93.33%; history (unit 2) 84.21%; law (unit 1) 96.67%; law (unit 2) 95.92%; management of business (unit 1) 85.92%; management of business (unit 2) 94.67%; physical education and sports (unit 1) 93.18%; physics (unit 2) 93.55%; pure mathematics (unit 2) 89.66%; sociology  (unit 1) 87.5%; Sociology (unit 2) 95.95%; and Spanish (unit 1)  88% .

Students made their worst showing in pure mathematics (unit 1) 57.38%; digital media (unit 2) 62.96%; economics (unit 1) 66.15%; and accounting (unit 2) 60%

There were 634 candidate entries of which 567 were from the SVGCC, and 67 private candidates.

The SVGCC candidates sat 1,959 examinations in 23 subject areas.
