A 16-year-old student on armed robbery, abduction, and burglary charges turned up to court on Friday in his school uniform, carrying a back-pack, apparently full of books, and a business textbook in his hand.

“Whey yo’ come in dem clothes dey for?” Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne asked Ozem Oliver, as he and his co-accused—Andreas Bruce and D’Andre Peters — entered the Serious Offences Court, in Kingstown.

“They still accept you in school?” she further asked Oliver, who was wearing the uniform of West St. George Secondary School.

“Yes, please,” Oliver said.

“And what form you’re in?” she further asked the teen accused.

“Form 5,” Oliver said.

The trio were in court for further hearing in the preliminary inquiry into a charge that on Aug. 10, 2018, at Glen, being armed with a gun, they robbed Denise Baptiste, of Glen, of one gold J7 Prime Samsung Galaxy cellular phone, value EC$1,100, and at the time of so doing, put Baptiste in fear of being then and there subjected to force.

At the end of Friday’s hearing which included the testimony of the investigator, detective Constable Hadley Ballantyne, the trio were committed to stand trial at the High Court.

Oliver has a number of other charges pending before the court, including that on April 18, 2018, he, along with Dale Hooper, 16, along with fellow Glen residents, Adolphus Lynch and Kemarl Richardson, both 21-year-old labourers of Diamond, entered the dwelling house of a 70-year-old retired businessman, of Ratho Mill, and stole a quantity of items, value EC$2,394.

Nickie was also charged that he assaulted two of the females by pushing them from a motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, Hooper and Oliver were further charged with unlawfully threatening to discharge a firearm at the women.

Oliver was also charged with possession of an imitation firearm.

  1. Well it’s too much for me, I cannot digest the accusations. Look at their ages, are they the profiled of the future generations? I am dumbfounded, I get numb from reading about the crime they have alleged to have committed. How shall we deal with them? Can the be rehabilitated?

  2. B Sc. Sociology with a minor in International Relations says:

I could only imagine the pressures and traumas teachers go through at the West St.George Secondary School with these types of students. There needs to be a special program for these types of students to reintegrate them back into society and place them in schools once they have shown they have changed… What happened to the Liberty Lodge for Boys???

  3. They just full of tricks. I would send to prison in his school clothes. Now they want school….pulling out a sympathy card or at least trying.

  4. Well our Prime minister can invest in an under the sea prison or a boarding school where there guys never see day light and do military training and exercise at nights.

This generation is only like this because of the slack culture we entertain and accept.

    1. He attended in school uniform with the intentions that the judge would be liniment with him. But the judge is not foolish like them. I hope there both get a long custodial sentence, and for the youngster in the red shirt, he is smiling, I hope he smiles when he gets 6-9 years in prison.

  5. Scary stuff. These are the ones we need to put a nice uniform on and have them clean the gutters and the sidewalks of Kingstown. Put their idle hands to good use. It’s called COMMUNITY SERVICE. It sounds like we will have an almost endless supply of these workers. SAD. Give them a police escort, brooms and shovels and lots of garbage bags. Let them work from 8-5 PM five days a week for how ever long the judge shall decide. Save them from themselves. Where are the parents?. Did any parents appear in court with them?. Or are they too ashamed of what they have created, and turned lose on society?.

  6. So he went to commit a real crime with a fake gun? What if the people they were robbing had license firearms? Very smart for a 5th former
