The homicide count in St. Vincent and the Grenadines reached 18 this year with the death, on Monday, of one of two men injured during a robbery three days earlier.

Cauldric George, 58, was shot in the face during the robbery at a shop in Prospect around 8:45 p.m., last Friday, Sept. 20, and died on Monday at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), where he was being treated.

Another patron, Ismael Daniel was stabbed at least twice with a pair of scissors, but is expected to make a full recovered.

Two armed men wearing a mask and a bandana committed the crime at a shop that Theresa Creese has been operating since the earlier 1970s.

They robbed the businesswoman of a gold chain she was wearing around her neck.

The robbers also left the store with some EC$600 in cash and a quantity of drinks, including a case of Guinness.

The also stole a number of bottles of wine and rum.

The men are said to have fled the scene using a car.

Three of the homicides this year have not been classified as murders and officials are expected to order that coroner’s inquests be conducted to determined if they resulted from acts of self defence, as claimed by the perpetrators.
