Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves has welcomed the re-election of Taiwan president, Tsai Ying-wen to a second term in office.

On Saturday, Tsai, of the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party secured a 20-percentage point victory over her main challenger Han Kuo-yu, of the main opposition and pro-unification Kuomintang (KMT).

Speaking at his Unity Labour Party’s convention in Campden Park on Sunday, Gonsalves said:

“I want to say how happy I am that yesterday, the electorate, the people of the Republic of China on Taiwan returned overwhelmingly to office our dear friend, President Tsai Ing-wen for a second consecutive term as president of Taiwan.”

Gonsalves further said he was pleased that Tsai’s DPP secured a majority in the legislative assembly in Taipei.

“This means that their work, their excellent work will continue and so far as St. Vincent and the Grenadines is concerned, our cooperative programme will continue without any hiccups,” Gonsalves said.

He added:

“We don’t have to go and negotiate or renegotiate anything over. What we have signed, we have signed and what we have agreed upon in this year and continuing, we have agreed upon in the certainty that there will be benefits for the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Gonsalves, who has been in office since March 2001, was speaking at his party’s last convention ahead of general elections, which he said would take place this year, ahead of the March 2021 constitutional deadline.

  1. Look at you! Everybody in St.Vincent must be stupid if they can’t see through your smoke screen, big belly Gonsalves. Our country, 50 years behind our closest neighbor[…]. Do the right thing, resign.(or go kill yourself)

    1. I don’t think that you are more than 12 years old. If you are something seriously wrong with you mentally. I think you will soon get a heart attack because it looks like any time you see Ralph in the news it triggers something in you.
Here’s the sad part of the story for you, its election year in st.vincent and with Ralph at the helm your days are number if you don’t find a way to deal with that radical behavior of your.

But me done travel the world and been to some of the best schools. I’m certain you will drop dead before me. Alyo satisfied with crumbs. But most of our people are wise to alyo. I’m 47 years old.

      2. Let me tell you mr.JJ. I born in Pauls’s Lot in Padmore house across from Ras Ital place behind Dulce/Sister/Percy Rock them. Down the street from Ghost run-shop next to Lemon. 2. The state of Taiwan and St Vincent politics makes for very, very strange bedfellows indeed! For here we have in Taiwan, a fledgling democracy in need of international support, cosying up to a declared pseudo old fashioned socialist. A declared pseudo old fashioned socialist in need of Grant Aid, because as with Venezuela, its proven use of those Marxist economics policies doesn’t work at all, especially when in the hands of looters of an economy.

And on the other hand we have here in SVG a declared pseudo old fashioned socialist, clearly in need of Grant Aid to keep the economy afloat because of the failure of our economy.

Here in SVG the old fox is cosying up to Taiwan’s, fledgling democratic leader, although he and his family’s natural home are not with the USA or the UK but with the Cuba’s, the Iran’s and the Venezuela’s of this world.

Needs dear, needs for different reasons, do indeed make for strange bedfellows!
