A Diamonds resident, who a prosecutor says is wanted by police in Grenada, has been remanded to prison until Thursday.
The man, Moses Maharaj appeared before Magistrate Bertie Pompey at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a number of charges.
He was charged that on Feb. 15, at Diamonds, in circumstances likely to cause a breach of the peace, he made use of indecent language to Police Constable 746 Ollivierre, to wit, “Pussy, no one man f***ing police can’t lock me up. You na no f***ing bad boy — gunshot fuh you m***er c**t.’
He was further charged that on the same date and place, he raised a Hairoun bottle at Ollivierre to prevent lawful apprehension of himself.
A third charge is that on the same date and place, he assaulted Ollivierre, resulting in actual bodily harm.
Maharaj pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Sergeant Renrick Cato objected to bail telling the court that Marahaj was wanted by police in Grenada.
Cato said the Crown was fearful that if granted bail, the accused man would abscond.
Maharaj, who seemed surprised when he heard that he was wanted by Grenadian police said: “I doh wanted in Grenada. I always show up in court!”
“In Grenada?” the prosecutor asked the defendant.
“No, right here in St. Vincent,” Maharaj replied.
Pompey remanded the defendant to prison until Thursday for bail review.
these are modern times , at the very least give officers stun guns if you cant give all pistols .
the days of holding a criminal by their pants waist and hauling them to police station are long gone ………….on that note , WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL BEING ARRESTED FOR CURSE WORDS and dont tell me its to protect society or kids because they use and hear more on the internet
No guns! The police believes it’s a license to kill. If he can’t apprehend the culprit then he should call for help. Many police take the law in their own hands and give out justice which often cause a problem for folks who fight back.
