The third person to test positive for the deadly coronavirus COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines seemed to conduct himself exemplarily, unlike Case #2, who exposed at least 64 other persons to the disease.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves told a Ministry of Health press conference in Kingstown on Friday, that the person, a male, arrived in the country from Barbados.
He noted that while at the time, Barbados was not a country to which the 14-day quarantine applied, the man appears to be someone who was listening and decided to quarantine himself.
The man’s brother, who also lived in the same premises, was not assessed to have had any symptom.
“Apparently, he didn’t go about the place, but, naturally, we would try and make all the contacts in the same manner. The information is that he overnighted in Barbados,” Gonsalves said of Case #2.
The prime minister said that other information is being gathered about the person but it would appear that the information from the community is that he had “behaved with some responsibility”.
“If that information is changed, the health authorities will tell you but that is as we have the information,” the prime minister said.
He said this information is important “in keeping people’s fear in some reasonable check, that we don’t go overboard”.
Seven persons in SVG have tested positive for COVID-19. One of them, Case #1, has since recovered.
All of the cases were imported.
