St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), on Tuesday, recorded another case of COVID-19, which could suggest community spread of the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Chief Medical Officer Simone Keizer-Beache told iWitness News that she was not in a position to say whether the latest patient had recent travel history.

“It is under investigation, so I am unable to say,” Keizer-Beache told iWitness News.

She also said that her ministry does not disclose the sex or age of persons who test positive for the virus.

However, the ministry has disclosed the sex of at least two COVID-19 positive patients in the country.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the latest COVID-19 patient is a businessperson who had displayed symptoms for some days before being tested.

In a press statement, on Tuesday, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) said that the new positive case was confirmed by the Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), which does testing of samples from SVG.

NEMO said CARPHA has also reported six more negative COVID-19 results.

“One of the negative results provided medical clearance and confirms this country’s third recovered COVID-19 case. There are therefore three recovered COVID-19 cases in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” NEMO said.

The release continued:

“The new positive COVID-19 case, which remains under investigation, brings the total number of confirmed cases in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to 13.

“This new case of COVID-19 serves as a reminder about the importance of maintaining the public health measures currently in place, which include hand hygiene, cough etiquette, physical distancing of at least 3-6 feet in public spaces, and strict adherence to quarantine and isolation. These measures are vital, if we are to continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will continue to keep the public informed as we manage this public health challenge together.”

On Tuesday, global coronavirus cases topped 2.5 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker.

A total of 171,810 persns have died around the world from COVID-19 and 659,732 have recovered.

Stay Home Now if you do not go out and follow the guidelines then Covid-19 will not find you

We are not managing nothing together in SVG I can report. Upon my much needed trip into kingstown on monday morning. I found that there is NO rule outside businesses where persons, pardon the pun, practically spooning each other in lines as long as the eye can see. No social distancing on the outside of business places. The only way this can be done is if it is backed by legal means.

    1. Most doctors that are schooled in virus transmission say the 6 feet apart rule is totally ridiculous. and increasing it to 13 feet is even more so. Nevertheless, people “spooning” is being too careless. This crisis is very much like a war when you think of the expression:
“The first casualty of any war is the truth.”
I am finding out that more than half the information we get about the virus is all fake news. YES! it is something to be concerned about and over the past weeks there are reports that it is mutating to infect more and more young people. Nevertheless, at this point the “establishment” seems to have an agenda to establish as much fear, and even panic, as possible (the gold-rush to buy toilette paper in the USA is an example). People that are afraid are much easier to control than those that are prudently informed.

  3. The Virus still has not been out for a year. over 1,000,000 people die every year from the flu. is it possible that Covide 19 gets that high? In about 4 months it is at 171,810.That does not mean that it will only get to 515,430 (half as much as the seasonal flu) but it should turn out to get an even higher fatality rate.
I still find it peculiar that SVG has not seen more infected. Let’s hope it stays that way.

    1. Its not really peculiar, its just that we are not doing the necessary testing. So far we have tested just over 100 persons out of a population of 100K and got 13 positive cases, that 13%. Can you imagine if we are to do about 1K tests? Grenada was one of the first countries that locked down with a curfew and they registered more positive cases before us. Go figure!
Our people are being mis-led even though the World Wide Webb is there with all the necessary and unnecessary information.
WE need to read and decipher our own information. We are very intelligent people, but over the last 2 decades, we allow ourselves to regress and made fools of. Its time Vincentians rise up and take their true places in society.

  4. Publish the darn person so people would know if they had any contact with him/her, they’re putting businesses and people at risk by not disclosing these people.

  5. Randy Byron-Cox says:

I predict..that all positive cases will be from people who have recently re entered the country…and they will all recover…and that there will be no community spreading….because svg..has no 5G cell towers…the symptoms of covid 19 reflects that of radiation poisoning…thank me later

  6. They have been able to say concerning all previous covid-19 cases that they are imported cases. Now there seems to be a hush (shhhhh) on this case. Is the CMO afraid to say, figuring the population and in particular the business person’s community will panic? I could be wrong but this looks strange to me. Anyway, we must continue to do the necessary things to be safe.

  7. I would like to ask a question. The Corona virus started in Wuhan, China, and in one month with it killed thousands, Then it passed through Asia and killed more thousands. Then it moved to Iran and Africa and then it moved to Europe where it killed even more thousands. Then it moved to the US. But then! The Virus killed mostly blacks (70%) and Hispanics (20%) and Whites less than 10%. So, in the USA this virus began to discriminate after it just killed randomly everywhere?
