Two of the 92 Vincentians cruise ship workers who returned home on the Carnival Glory cruise ship on Saturday were found, on rapid testing, to have been exposed to COVID-19.

“The Health Services Subcommittee has commenced further testing on those two crew members and their four counterparts, to determine whether or not they have active COVID-19 infections,” The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) said late Saturday night.

“All six have been quarantined in a government approved facility, until definitive PCR COVID-19 testing can be completed,” the release further stated.

“The other 86 crew members have commenced 14 days of mandatory quarantine in their private homes, apartments and guest houses,” NEMO said.

The Vincentian sailor are the first of about 2,000, according to government estimated, who have been stranded overseas as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the 92 sailors, 91 of them worked on various Carnival Cruise line vessels and were transferred to the Carnival Glory on May 2 in the Bahamas.

One Vincentian transferred from the Caribbean Princess to the Carnival Glory in Vincentian waters on May 9, 2020.

“All of the Vincentian nationals disembarked after initially being screened for SARS-CoV-2 virus (the virus which causes COVID-19) exposure.

“This screening was conducted by the Medical Team on board the Carnival Glory using COVID-19 rapid tests,” NEMO said.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has had 17 PCR confirmed cases of COVID-19, nine persons have fully recovered so far.

“The Health Services Subcommittee reminds Vincentians of the importance of strict compliance with quarantine and isolation instructions to ensure that we maintain containment of COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“The public is asked to maintain the effective public health measures currently in place which have served to slow the spread of COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The safe use of face coverings including homemade masks, along with hand hygiene, cough etiquette, and physical distancing should be strictly adhered to,” NEMO said.

  1. The rapid test does not prove whether or not anyone has the Covid-19 at the time of testing. It only proves whether you had it sometime previously, and have developed antibodies.
It is a test to detect the presence of antibodies.

In that case it means they are safer than most people are because they have developed antibodies.

  2. Welcome home!!!!
Just 1 question, did you guys all take public transportation home , or did each person had individual ride home?
    Just asking

  3. Strict compliance with quarantine and isolation is one thing, if only for family and neighbour’s safety, the loss of income, is yet quite another.

This colossal unfolding disaster had an origin somewhere in China, so will the Chinese ever be required to pay up compensation in consequence?
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8304989/The-plausible-explanation-Coronavirus-DID-leak-Wuhan-lab-Australian-expert-says.html

Moreover, we are not alone in enduring the pain of so much loss in incomes and stalling economies.

Therefore, as these workers comes home, they and their families consequently ask, with no money in the pocket, what next? What next indeed for somany!

  4. Urlan Alexander says:

What the hell does tested positive for exposure to covid -19 means? Of hr means you come in close contact with someone who had the virus then we have a lot of people to put in quarantine. Not just the two sailors but the entire portion of the crew that came off the ship plus the whole of Greggs and Owia and lots if that places.
These health people are on kicks it seems.

  5. Some of the Jamaican sailors are suing the Jamaican government for hindering them from freely returning home when they wanted to come.

James, I wrote about the Wuhan virus escaping from the laboratory months ago, I was probably among the first, no one locally wanted to publish what I wrote but it was published regionally and internationally, Vincentians were not allowed to read about it, what I wrote was censored by some local editors. It seems that Vincentians are not grown up enough to read such things that might frighten them.

These articles appeared in between 5 and 6 online news media, some of which are substantial concerns, also two newspapers. There were three other articles on the subject but I do not have them to hand at the moment.
