Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett, on Monday, said that the Kingstown Magistrate’s court “should get back to some normalcy shortly” despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It appears as though I am slowly going to get to the position where I am going to run my court as it were close to normal again,” Burnett said.

Burnett said he has to think of things himself and act accordingly.

“I am saying we should get back to some normalcy shortly,” he told the court, adding that he is making that decision for his court and that alone.

The senior magistrate said he is no doctor or scientist but he had to interpret things.

“If things change, then we change, but based on what I am reading and seeing and interpreting for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where I am, I am going to get back to normalcy shortly.”

He said he was alerting court officers of his thinking.

As of Monday evening, St. Vincent and the Grenadines had three active cases of COVID-19 — 14 of the other persons who tested positive for the viral illness having recovered.

There were 17 results pending, including two for patients who are awaiting medical clearance.

The Ministry of Health said that 164 persons had been tested and 138 persons were in quarantine.

There were no deaths linked to the illness.
