A preacher who is being tried on three counts of rape of a member of his congregation when she was between 5 and 8 years old, on Friday, opted not to testify in his defence or call any witnesses on his behalf.

Delroy Fraser, 41, is alleged to have had sex with the child on four occasions between Jan. 1, 2014 and Dec. 31, 2016 in Canouan.

Fraser, who is originally from Barrouallie, was the assistant pastor at a church where the child and her mom fellowshipped.

He is alleged to have committed the sex crimes in the sea water where he had taken the girl, now 11, on several occasions with her mother’s permission.

The child testified in the case and told the court that as she grew taller, Fraser took her deeper and deeper into the water to facilitate his crime.

In an electronic interview with investigators, Fraser denied the allegations, saying he had never lifted the child up during their beach outings.

On some of the beach trips, Fraser was accompanied by his wife and their daughter, who is of similar age as the virtual complainant.

When the Crown closed its case on Friday, Fraser, who is represented by counsel Israel Bruce, told the court that he was opting to say nothing and call no witnesses in his defence.

The Crown is represented by Crown Counsel Karim Nelson and Rose-Ann Richardson.

On Monday, the prosecution and defence are scheduled to make closing arguments before Justice Brian Cottle sums up the evidence.

The nine-member jury, which includes six females, will then consider their verdict.

  1. All in the name of religion or church ? If these allegations are true darn it. That is the reason why I don’t go to church. My church is my heart. I don’t know why pastors act the way they do, some will even pour hot water on their victim. Watch a man is the raggae artist will say.

“alleged to have had sex with the child”…..Mr. Editor, there is no such thing. A child of 5 to 8 years of age cannot give consent. Consequently, if the act of sex did occur that would be rape. Stop creating a pathway of escape for those who rape a child. Not at all acceptable.
