The management of the five-star Mandarin Oriental, Canouan has written to staff as two guests have tested positive for COVID-19.

“The case is in the hands of the medical authorities under whose advice we are following,” Duarte Correia, general manager of the resort, said in an email which was seen by iWitness News.

Correia said that the guests and their travelling party have been immediately isolated and all necessary health protections are being taken.

“As a precaution, we have temporarily closed TIDES Restaurant in order to undertake a thorough deep cleaning process,” the email said.

The manager said that staff who have been in close contact with the guests have been notified and tested under medical professional’s supervision.

“Your comfort, safety and health are always our top priority. As we continue to monitor the situation and follow the direction of medical officials, we want to assure you that each colleague will have the opportunity to speak with a medical professional and be tested.

“We have been advised to ask you to continue personal hygiene standards and refer to local and government guideline and safety protocols,” the manager said.

National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) announced midnight Wednesday that St. Vincent and the Grenadines, on Wednesday, confirmed two new COVID-19 cases.

NEMO said that the non-nationals “arrived from Sweden entering St. Vincent and the Grenadines from Grenada” with negative PCR results on Aug 19.

The patients, both adults, have been isolated since receipt of their preliminary positive results which were confirmed Wednesday, NEMO said.

SVG has now recorded 60 COVID-19 cases, 57 of which have recovered.

The country has recorded no COVID-19 related deaths.
