The main opposition New Democratic Party has been put on notice that its dominance of politics in the Northern Grenadines is about to end.

“Tell Friday, and tell Friday this: a star, a new star is rising in the north,” the Unity Labour Party’s candidate for the constituency, newcomer to politics Carlos Williams has telegraphed to area representative, Opposition Leader Godwin Friday.

“Tell him his reign of mismanagement, poor representation is over,” Williams told the ULP’s virtual meeting last Wednesday.

“There is a fresh leadership ready to take his place,” he said.

“For a very long time, Dr. Friday, Friday, Godwin has found himself adrift and continue to drift as a ship that is sailing without a rudder aimlessly when it comes to the people and the representation of Northern Grenadines.

“For a very long time, Friday has been asleep at the wheel.  For a very long time, Friday has taken the people of Northern Grenadines, Mustique and Bequia for granted. This Unity Labour Party has proven over the years and has continued to work tirelessly to improve the livelihood and for the people of Northern Grenadines. it is evidenced in a dedication, health, wellness, sports, culture, and tourism, and housing programmes and initiatives in Northern Grenadines. You will agree with me that much more can be done. And it’s expected that much more will be done. Hold me accountable,” Williams said.

Williams, harking back to the ULP’s campaign slogan of 2015, said, “My friends, labour love all of us but what does that mean?”

He said that for people in the Northern Grenadines, simply put, this means “we are putting works and actionable, number stronger-together vision for the Northern Grenadines and for which I say to you, you must hold me accountable…

“It means that a business council will be pulled together, a business council of industrial people of Northern Grenadines who will become the think tanks relative to the economic wellbeing and the development of the people of Northern Grenadines, a constituency that will genuinely represent the interests of each village in the Northern Grenadines.”

Williams said the council will pursue projects that would yield decent jobs, not ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ but yet they cannot tell you where the jobs coming from,” he said, deriding one of the opposition’s slogans.

“But we will pursue projects that will deal decent jobs across all spectrums of livelihood and skill sets.”

He said that “Labour love you in Northern Grenadines” means to “hold Carlos accountable; a plan for every constituency plan for every village”.

Williams said he will focus on the revitalisation of airports and seaports in Northern Grenadines.

Under the ULP administration, which came to office in March 2001, the Bequia airport, named for former Prime Minister Sir James Mitchell, whose New Democratic Party administration constructed it, went into a state of dilapidation.

“The Bequia airport will be repaired. As a matter of fact, I was told that the repairs will start in about two to three weeks’ time. This is a working government. We’re getting it done,” Williams said.

He said his is a plan for the development of the Bequia port area.

It’s a plan for the area referred to as The Almond Tree. The plan also includes the provision of a modern sea ambulance and rescue vessel to be delivered by the end of this month.

Williams also plans to make tourism, the mainstay of the economy in the constituency, a year round happening.

“We have heard over and over off season, on season. Time enough for that to be abolished — 365 days within the year, our people must eat; our people must be fed. So we’re going to abolish that and we’re going to change the mindset of people,” he said.

Williams promised to “reclaim some of those portion of lands as Crown lands”, but did not elaborate.

He said that under his representation, the government will distribute these lands to the locals of Bequia.

“Regularise, we will, the informal settlement of Bequia; Paget Farm land reform, Cemetery Hill and Union Vale; we will transform — this is what I’m telling you what’s the meaning of Labour love.

“We will transform Hamilton waterfront into a hub of culture and festival. We will move to provide facilities on Princess Margaret beach and Lower Bay Beach also in Paget farm, construct a market and convenience in Paget farm. We will work in concert with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries to ensure that the Bequia smart centre is constructed and delivered to the people, a centre which will offer engine repairs hospitality training, you name it, in that centre.

“The restoration of Paget Farm Playing Field, the redevelopment of the Clive Tannis Playing Field, we will make sure that it is lighted. We will ensure that Hamilton, Lower Bay and Mt Pleasant that their playing field, as you have been requested, is commissioned. We will strengthen the Bequia on shore committee,” Williams said.

He said that the Paget Farm Police Station will be rebuilt.

The police station has been located at various buildings over the last decades or so, since their original home went into disrepair and the government claimed that the soil there is unsuitable for reconstruction. However, islanders have dismissed tis assessment as bogus.

Williams said a police outpost will be placed on Front Street of Port Elizabeth as priority and steps will be taken to correct issues as they relate to parking in the town.

Williams said that the ULP will address climate change on Bequia.

He further said that local government is critical.

“… we must move to reintroduce local government within the Grenadines,” he said, adding that the government will work with the Mustique Company to ensure and to strengthen the relationship there between the people and the company itself.

  1. Traditional reformed Christianity has taken the view that “God has sure stopped speaking to men” and that the only thing left on his agenda is the Judgement! So when someone says God said, or God directed, we ought to ask, on what page or what verse in the Bible guided you? Read;

Hebrews 1: New King James Version (God’s Supreme Revelation)
(1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds

3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.)

For that fact the Revelation of God is now complete! Therefore, Carlos Williams by following his own desires and then attributing it to God’s plan is only fooling himself. By observation alone he has to be wrong since Communism/Socialism flies in the face of all what could be termed as “the common grace” of God.

“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things” Acts 17:24 New King James Version. If that is so!

Why then, if what a man has as his own, should these Red-Shirts seek to disposes him of it? Simone Murry and family would no doubt have something to say to Carlos Williams and his fellow Red-shirts and their doctrine. https://www.iwnsvg.com/2020/08/17/video-communist-land-acquisition-in-svg/

  2. No no No…..This needs to stop too much foolishness now. So in 2001 the Bequia airport was in dilapidation but in 2020 you now going to start repairs?? Who is really the poor representative. What can Friday do apart from raising the issues in parliament, on the other hand if you really for the people you get your party to do something you’re the one in Gov’t. smh.

  3. Nathan 'Jolly' Green says:

What an absolute cheek. The Grenadines have suffered long-standing punishment for 20years because they are almost totally all NDP and were led by Son Mitchel, who the ULP hated. So the people have stood being punished and abused for 20years.

The whole infrastructure has been neglected to the point of almost demolishment standards. The Bequia airport is in the state it is due to the ULP leaders spite.

Then they imposed a tax on the Grenadines people that mainland Vincentians were never charged. The departure tax from Kingstown to anywhere in the Grenadines was a deliberate act of gross spite. Yet if you lived in mainland Georgetown, you could come and go to Kingstown as you pleased without the spiteful taxation by the ULP leadership.

Now this young man wants to tell you he is going to make everything right in the Grenadines after his party have made everything wrong. Let him lose his deposit; I hope that no Vincentian from the Grenadines shows him any quarter at all.

Carlos Williams, you have been chosen by Gonsalves for one reason only, because you are stupid enough to stand as a candidate in the Grenadines. He knows you stand no chance, so he must have made you a promise for you becoming a whipping boy, must have promised you when you lose he will make you a senator. But the shame is you Carlos are willing to sell your soul to keep this dreadful regime and dynasty in power, shame on you, shame on the PM.

Dear Grenadines people shun this young man, shun Ralph Gonsalves, shun the ULP. For years the ULP have tried to beat you into submission, you have defeated them at there own game. Now is the time to remain strong and show them no support as they try and change tack. They think you are all stupid, and if anyone of you believes them and supports them, those who do are.

  4. Again, the script sounds like it could have been (and probably was) written by Ralph Gonsalves. Soboto Caesar, as a representative is maybe the only ULP candidate that has an individual narrative. But certainly at least this candidate, Ralph and the Boy Wonder all sound like they have the same script writer.

  5. The rise and fall of a Country’s economy all depends on the policies its Government and policy makers seeks to follow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN5LZR4ejkg in the case of Venezuela which not so long ago, was the richest country in South America, we see now the result of its decline which is quite obvious to behold. A classic case of “riches to rags” in just a few years! Why such a rapid decline? Perhaps we could ask Ralph!

Ralph Gonsalves, Carlos Williams and his fellow Red-Shirts all have a way of saying one thing but doing otherwise, as Vincentians have learned to expect over the past years. They offer the earth but only delivers the odd Sheep, a Goat, a Pig, or perhaps a sack of cement or two at election time and this year expect a box of fruit and veg that they are calling a “LOVE BOX”!

But if Ralph, Carlos and the other Red-Shirts won’t admit to where they have been taking us, see for yourself the disastrous example of Venezuela https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee0CHgjOOzw like CUBA, these Red-Shirts will have us sucking even more salt in the next years to come.

Yet another term in office for this bunch of tyrannical autocrats will have us begging the world over all over again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-mUZRP-fpo These Red-Shirts are absolutely clueless about the real realities of Economics. Do the Maths with this hard working Cuban Doctor who earns $6 a day for a 12 hour work shift https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmFiXhvHIxA This is the result of their economics.

  6. Long time we waiting for labour love Mr William’s. So you are effectively saying that under the representative of Mr Belmont we didn’t deserve any labour love, however, we will definitely get it through yourself?

Let me ask you this? Why is the roads on the island of Bequia in the current condition? Is this what we should expect from labour love?

  7. All of you are behaving as if you are the opposition and the opposition is the government who is responsible for the spending of the tax payers money. So shameful. You all sound so stupid, dotish, foolish, ignorant, it’s best take a dignified silence

    1. Please explain Grace, i am finding it difficult to understand if you are for or against what is being said. From my point of view, it sounds like you are agreeing with the comments here that the ULP have neglected the people of the Northern Grenadines; no money being spent over the last few years.

      Please clarify?

  8. ,D Louis, I saying that the ULP is behaving as if they are the opposition and the NDP is the government who is responsible for the public purse. The ULP. have neglected our main resources and blaming the NDP for everything.

  9. My question is why al there changes that are now promised was not done in the past 20 years. Why now? Where was the labour love in the northern Grenadines for the past 20 years?
