St. Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded another dengue-related death, bringing to six the number of persons who have lost their lives as a result of the mosquito-borne viral illness.
The Ministry of Heath said, on Friday, that the latest victim is a 13-year-old female student who had been a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for more than 10 days.
The ministry said that the girl received extensive care from the dedicated health care team.
The death comes one day after the ministry revised from six to five, the number of persons who had died of the illness.
The ministry said on Thursday that one person previously classified as dying from severe dengue fever, has been determined to have had dengue fever but died from other causes.
The ministry said that 655 laboratory confirmed cases of dengue fever have been reported in the country for 2020 as of Tuesday, Oct. 6.
This makes it by far the worst outbreak of the illness in SVG for over a decade.
Home treatments for dengue should focus on reducing the fever by using cool — not cold baths –acetaminophen (paracetamol) — not ibuprofen (or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) — and papaya leaf extract.
Maintaining hydration by drinking lots of fluids such as coconut water is very important. Persons with symptoms of Dengue Fever are urged to seek medical care very early and to follow the recommendations of their health care providers to avoid the possible complications, the ministry said.

Jamie. doctor death is responsible for her death. My condolences goes out to the family of this girl. . I believe that these deaths could have been prevented if actions were taken at an earlier stage, . , and I believe the next disease to plague us will be leptospirosis.
