The Taiwan Embassy in Kingstown has handed over 1,089 boxes of donated goods from SimplyHelp Foundation to the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG)
The items were handed over to the Ministry of National Mobilisation.
“As the two countries continue to share closer relation, the Embassy has collaborated with the SimplyHelp Foundation, a U.S.-registered non-profit organisation, for five successive years,” the embassy said in a press statement.
“This year 1,089 boxes of various items with a value of US$141,180 are donated to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, including children and women clothes, shoes, school supplies, toys, eye goggles, face shields, mosquito repellent, and medical equipment, etc.
“This marks the total contribution from SimplyHelp Foundation to St. Vincent and the Grenadines over 3,000 boxes of various items.”
The embassy said that the donation is the concrete practice of public-private collaboration, which upholds the spirit of “Taiwan can Help”.
“The collaboration between our two peoples demonstrates the core value of the long-term friendship between our two countries,” the embassy said.
It further said that Taiwan would continue to help its diplomatic allies and like-minded countries to prevent the pandemic, and to promote the health and well being of the people of the global community.
Meanwhile, in a press statement on Feb. 1, Minister of National Mobilisation, Dr. Orando Brewster, said:
“In receiving this donation, I am happy for these items donated which contains items of the PPE gears that will be used by my Ministry staff in the execution of their duties while serving the general public here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”
Brewster further expressed SVG’s “continued support to our friendly ally as this collaboration will assist my government and Ministry in meeting the needs of Vincentians who are in need of the items donated.”
He said that the donated items would be distributed to various communities in SVG to children and the vulnerable.
“I wish to take this opportunity on behalf of the Government and people of St Vincent and the Grenadines and my Ministry to say thank you to His Excellency Ambassador Calvin Ho of the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and reaffirms my Government’s commitment to work with like-minded Allies to prevent the pandemic, and to promote the health and well-being of the people of the global community,” Brewster said.
