Workers at the Argyle International Airport (AIA) have been “continuously complaining” to the Public Service Union (PSU) about several issues that are affecting them, the union says.

In a press statement, the PSU said that despite having successfully completed their probationary periods, workers at AIS have not received their increments.

“Uniforms were issued more than two years ago and are in dire need of replacement.

“The vehicle assigned to the Aviation Security Department is dilapidated and needs to be replaced. The foregoing are only a few of the issues that the workers have cited,” PSU president, Elroy Boucher said in a press statement.

The PSU said that on several occasions, it wrote to management about the workers’ concerns, but responses have not been forthcoming.

“The PSU is the recognised bargaining agent for workers at the AIA, a responsibility which we take seriously.

“However, it seems that management and the board of directors have adopted an anti-union stance.  If this attitude towards the union and workers’ issues continues, we will have no other alternative but to take whatever action is necessary to have the issues addressed,” Boucher said.

“The PSU is urging both management and the Board of Directors to embrace social dialogue.  Now is not the time for the manifestation of conflict between any trade union and management.”
