A Cane Garden man is to be tried tomorrow, Friday, for allegedly entering, last month, the home of a woman who he had beaten in December 2019 and again in January 2020, resulting in a 12-month jail term.
In December 2019, Kimmarley Douglas attacked Monique Hutchins, then 45, of Cane Garden, leaving her with broken arms.
Even as the woman was recuperating, he attacked her with a hammer, beating her about the head, resulting in some of her teeth being knocked out.
The duo has been in a relationship that had ended before the attacks.
And, having completed his jail term, Douglas is alleged to have entered the woman’s property on Jan. 22, 2021.
On Monday, he appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, charged that on Jan. 22, he entered Hutchins’, Cane Garden home as a trespasser with intent to commit theft.
He was further charged that on Feb. 14, 2021, at Rockies, without lawful excuse, he damaged one yellow polo t-shirt, valued at EC$35, and one Samsung Galaxy J7 screen, valued at EC$300, the property of Stephen Browne, of Rockies.
Douglas pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Prosecutor acting Corporal of Police Corlene Samuel objected to bail in relation to the matter involving Hutchins.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant had just completed a sentence in relation to an offence committed against Hutchins.
She further said the defendant also had a matter at the Serious Offences Court, as a result of which he had been ordered to have no contact with Hutchins.
Samuel noted that the charges against Douglas are mere allegations but said:
“This virtual complainant is afraid of this defendant. Afraid for her life and afraid of what he would do when he enters her house,” Samuel said.
The prosecutor, therefore, asked the court to deny Douglas bail, adding that the Crown was prepared to conduct a trial soon.
The magistrate asked if the prosecutor would be ready for Friday, and she said yes.
Meanwhile, Douglas told the court that he had no matter before the Serious Offences Court.
The magistrate granted the prosecutor’s application and remanded Douglas into custody until Friday for his trial.

What is the message that he is sending to the perpetrators???
This woman life is at high risk. Something tell me he is going to take this lady life. May God protect her from this beast.

My heart is bleeding for this poor woman….She needs protection,and need it very quick, other wise this monster is definitely going to kill her…The Judge should have given him at least 10 years…He has absolutely no regards for the law , this time he has to get nothing less than 25 years of hard labour. The legal system in SVG needs restructuring , it’s about time that they send a stern message that the days of men beating women is a thing of the past. Please judge, make an example of this guy, incarcerate him for a very long time.
