Eloise Gonsalves, wife of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery later this month, for a condition, which the prime minister said last year, could put her in a wheelchair.
Gonsalves said on Wednesday that he and his wife would be travelling next Wednesday, March 17, for two weeks.
“And you know, last September I went to the USA with Eloise to do all the check-ups and everything and hoping that we could get the operation to her potentially serious problem relating to her spinal condition, but we have just been able to get, recently, the appointment date from the surgeon”.
He said that some further tests will be done on the Thursday and Friday after their arrival in the United States “and then the following week, on the Monday, God willing … my fingers crossed that we get the operation done.
“And I have to stay with her for a little while for recuperation and to make sure that she has the requisite support systems.”
Gonsalves noted that on his return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, he would only be in quarantine for seven days as he has already received his two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Gonsalves said that while overseas he could do a lot of work still electronically, including by Zoom, email and telephone.
“… so, I will continue to do my work as the circumstances admit but clearly the priority is going — is to provide the support for Eloise,” the prime minister said.
I hope he will be Quarantined at a hotel at his expense

Gonsalves, my sympathies for you and your family; I hope your wife recovers well. Looks like things start to get serious in the public arena, your son just declared Caricom dead, after he said nobody noticed the rotting corpse. Money does go to people’s heads but of course you have to have the money for it to go to your head. I do hope that you all get what you all deserve. With 1/2 SVG people making less than EC$500,00 a month, ordinary folks can afford the insurance to go a foreign for medical procedures; Senior citizens dying slowly in squats juxtapositioned with this articles speaks volumes. But good luck all the same.
I want to wish the PM and his wife all the best and PRAY that this surgery will be successful because I myself may have to do a similar surgery.
When Ralph is away the Governor General will have to appoint someone to stand in for him, that is what the constitution says.
The person currently sworn in as deputy prime minister should not count in the equation as there is no provision for such an office in the constitution, not even while Ralph is away can a temporary or deputy be appointed, no provision.

You should of called it a day politically and take care of your wife She is responsible for your success. The only good thing you have going for you is your wife and children.
Some the comments here are really sad. There is a place and time for everything under the sun. None of us know when SICKNESS OR THE THE RUFFIANS will come a calling. May God take Mrs. Gonsalves through the operation safely and is 100%successful, and her recovery is a speedy one. People let us spread love and not hatred. Why the operation cannot be done in vincy?Is it because you can afford the best medical ovwrseas or you have no failth in the MCMH slaughterhouse.
I read that as well in our constitution Mr. Green…. there is nothing that states anything about a ‘deputy prime minister’. Our Constituion didnot provide for a Deputy Prime Minister in its mandate…..I hope our GG will be able to fulfill her rightful duties and exercise her responsibilites on behalf of our people, according to our constitution. No one is above the law….

when going to that hospital you have to enter from the cemetery side if you want to get out safely.
