There has been no death in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a result of a COVID-19 vaccine, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Simone Keizer-Beache said on Monday.

The CMO said that there were photos going around social media claiming that someone had died from a COVID-19 vaccine.

“We have had no person in St. Vincent and the Grenadines dying from a COVID vaccine. As we have said from the beginning, you can die from other things, the COVID vaccine only reduces your likelihood of being infected with the COVID and more so developing COVID-19. But we have had no deaths in St. Vincent and the Grenadines due to the COVID vaccination,” Keizer-Beache said.

As of Monday, so far, 14,526 people have taken COVID-19 vaccines in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, way below the 50,000 or so jabs the government had hoped to administer by now.

Speaking about the rumour of a COVID-19 death, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said on the same programme on NBC Radio, on Monday:

“I don’t know why people decided they are going to do these things. We have enough problems, we have enough challenges and they try to inflict these other burdens with misinformation, disinformation, lies, fake news, malicious commentaries and reporting. I mean, they must stop it.

“And I am urging persons to put on their thinking caps all the time and reflect on what some people would put up on social media and elsewhere and listen to the authorities. Listen to the authorities. Listen to you, listen to Roger Duncan, listen to the professionals in this particular area.”
