The 60-year-old man who was shot at his home on April 13, reportedly in the presence of government Senator Ashelle Morgan and Assistant Director of Public Prosecution, Karim Nelson is calling on the Christian community to speak out on the matter.

Cornelius John, of Diamond, is waiting for the outcome of a police investigation to see if any charges would be brought against any of the three persons, one of whom he said kicked him about the body before shooting him in the left leg, breaking the bone in the process.

“We say we are a God-fearing nation and I would like to say to the Christians in the community, in St. Vincent who say they know God and love God, as one who is a part of them, but not just saying Christians by name, especially those who say they are Holy Ghost-filled and filled with the spirit of God, to get up and do something,” John told iWitness News on Wednesday.

“Because if you are filled with the spirit of God, the Word says that if a builder builds a nation and God is not the head of the building, you are building it in vain: the watchman that watched a city, if God is not a part of the watching, your watching is in vain,” he said.

“So if we say we are a Christian nation and the Christians are there and hear this thing happen and sit down and do nothing about it, I will say to them, who is next?

“I am only the beginning or part of the beginning. Who is next? It will continue. So if they come for your son next, or your daughter next, or your husband next, or your wife next, would they want somebody to say something about it or they will just stay quiet, as Christians in the nation?”

No one has been arrested and no charges have been brought in connection with the shooting.

John said he was shot after he saw three people on this property, who he hailed.

He said that the trio — two men and a woman, who he recognised as Morgan, in spite of her COVID-19 mask as she grew up in the community — came over to him.

He told iWitness News that the taller of the two men asked him if he wanted to kill the senator.

John said that he was confused by the statement and asked the man what he was talking about and proceeded to tell Morgan to leave his wife alone as he needs her help in his concrete products and farm businesses.

He said that his wife has been going around with Morgan, the deputy speaker of the House of Assembly to visit persons in emergency shelters after the April 9 explosive eruption of La Soufriere.

John told iWitness News that after his comments to the woman he recognised as Morgan, the taller of the men kicked him to the ground, stomped him about the body and then shot him.

The trio left him there with his wounded leg, he said.

He told iWitness News that he has faith that his leg will heal completely.

“I gotta get healing. I serve God. Since 1990 I gave my life to Christ and accepted. And we tell people about healing and deliverance and victory. If I am a child of God, I believe in healing and I know I will get healing and I will receive healing. God is my strength. I have to believe in him.”

John told iWitness News that he is a member of the Pentecostal faith and fellowships at Victory Kingdom Life Covenant Ministry International in Diamond.

  1. Wendell Cole says:

Why ia there a need to protect the identity of the second man? Something is in the mortar besides the pestle holds true. Justice requires that the name of the other material witness be disclosed. Why is there a need to hide behind the veils of anonymity?

  2. That will never happened they are just like the criminals or maybe worst i call them cristophine

  3. I a

I agree that Christians should speak out. But Christians like yourself continued to support a man who was accused of rape and who has destroyed several businesses. He also refused to obey court orders and continues to victimize citizens. Am not convinced that most Christians care enough

  4. If nothing is done about this case and this lady proceeds to be a member of parliament she will be a disgrace to the ULP regime. […] Ralph better rethink and stop telling vincentians to shut their mouth………. i done talk.

  5. Nathan 'Jolly' Green says:

Mr John you may consider there are no real Christians in St Vincent. When you consider the support of the world boss by followers who said and did nothing after he told them he tells lies, after he told them he works Obeah. To follow any person who made such statements makes the followers as bad or worse than him.

The Christian Council said nothing either they should be renamed the Obeah Supporters Council.

  6. Take warning says:

Muse, I strongly agree with you , that is always my concern, how can these people support a man who has been accused of rape? Some one said that they are satan worshippers cannibals. They have sell their souls for plane ride, duty free concessions, special passports, favours and promises, The talk show hosts is doing their job by speaking out against injustice, speaking for those who can’t speak, they have become the hands, feet and voice of jesus. To remain silence in the face of injustice is evil.
