Two more vaccinated travellers to St. Vincent and the Grenadines have tested positive for the delta variant of the COVID-19 virus.

The Caribbean Public Health Agency confirmed the two cases.

The two positive cases announced by the Ministry of Health, on Friday, bring to three the number of cases of the delta variant confirmed in the country.

All three cases were among vaccinated travellers.

One sample was collected during entry screening at Argyle International Airport from a fully vaccinated traveler who arrived from England with a negative PCR result on Aug. 12.

The Molecular Lab Unitof the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment subsequently reported on Aug. 12 that the traveller had tested positive.

The other sample was from a vaccinated traveller who arrived on Aug. 9 and tested positive on Aug. 12, while in quarantine. Both travelers then transitioned to approved isolation accommodations, and have since tested negative for COVID-19.

Routine contact tracing detected six other COVID-19 positive cases associated with these travelers.

All of these positive cases have since been cleared by negative SARS-CoV-2 (COVID- 19) PCR tests.

Three new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 219  samples processed on Wednesday, Aug. 25, resulting in a positivity rate of 1.4%.

Two new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 293 samples processed on Thursday, resulting in a positivity rate of 0.7%.

Sixteen new recoveries were noted over the reporting period.

Eighteen cases are currently active and 12 people with COVID-19 have died.

SVG has recorded 2,331) cases of COVID-19 and 2,301 recoveries since March 2020.

“In view of the increased risk of infection and subsequent transmission of COVID-19 posed by the growing incidence of variants of concern in persons entering St. Vincent and the Grenadines, strict compliance with all protocols and recommendations is strongly recommended. These include the effective use of masks, physical distancing, hand sanitizing and immunization with available vaccines,” a press release said.

  1. Just a few more Delta Positives and the government will joyfully require everyone to get vaccinated. It seems to me this is what they want and have hoped for. They just want an excuse.

  2. Why are we still lying to the public. How the heck can they say that “immunization with available vaccines”, but yet people who came in with Delta variant was vaccinated. Do they think we still have breadfruit mentality and are not educated and even more have common sense. THESE VACCINES DO NOT HAVE ANY VALUE, STOP TAKING US FOR FOOL!
