A partially vaccinated 90-year-old woman has died of COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The woman tested positive for COVID-19 and died on Wednesday of COVID-19 pneumonia.
“The deceased was partially vaccinated and had underlying conditions,” the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) siad in a press statement.
She was one of two people who died of the illness this week, bringing the tally to 71.
The other deceased was a 59-year-old man who tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 28 and died on Nov. 6 of COVID-19 pneumonia. The deceased was unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, NEMO said, on Thursday, that 37 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 178 samples collected on Tuesday, resulting in a positivity rate of 20.8%.
Fifteen new rapid antigen positive results were reported from flu clinics on Tuesday.
There are 12 patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility. Eleven patients are unvaccinated, and one patient is partially vaccinated. Seventeen patients are admitted to the COVID-19 wards at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. Fifteen patients are unvaccinated and two (2) are partially vaccinated.
NEMO said that no new recoveries were noted over the reporting period and 1,161 cases are currently active.
Since March 2020, SVG has recorded 5,204 cases of COVID-19 and 3,972 recoveries have been recorded.
NEMO said:
“In view of the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu and Gamma variants in the community and the significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, severe COVID-19 disease and deaths, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by everyone is strongly recommended. The correct and consistent use of masks, avoidance of crowds, physical distancing, proper hand sanitising and immunisation with available vaccines have all been proven to significantly reduce the risk of being infected, getting sick and or dying from the COVID-19 virus.”
Kenton, publish a graph outlining the progression of civid19 in SVG to date. The numbers are often quite confusing in the current fashion. Where are the 1161 active cases, in hospital? Every one else are on the way out and we are only getting started. Look like they are not taking this virus serious.
The Evidence to date shows there is a postive correlation between covid death and the unvaccinated. This is an undisputabe fact, it is almost a choice between life and death. Make your pick Vincentians.
What is so strange about a ninty year old woman dying, whether or not she was vaccinated. All of a sudden no one who is vaccinated could die unless it’s because of the vaccine. SMH !!!
