KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The government is continuing it “information technology revolution” with respect to wireless Internet, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said last week.
Gonsalves said that wireless high-speed Internet will be installed at police stations and health centres, 107 educational institutions, all learning resource centres, and certain community centres.
“This is being done as a policy of the government,” he said, adding that by Oct. 4, wireless Internet will be installed at these facilities throughout mainland St. Vincent and in the Grenadines by Oct. 14.
He said this dovetails with the computer facilities in schools and the one laptop per child policy, which has seen 15,000 laptops valued EC$15 million distributed to students.
The Prime Minister read an email from a 10-year-old student in Bequia who thanked him for the netbooks, said that he was doing a great job, and sent blessing to him and his family.
