KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Four St. Lucians were up to midday yesterday being questioned after they were arrested by the local Coast Guard.

A well-placed source told I-Witness News that the men were arrested after the Coast Guard opened fire on the engine of the pirogue in which they were travelling, disabling the vessel.

The Coast Guard is said to have opened fire after the men ignored the law officers’ instructions to stop while travelling on the leeward side of the island Tuesday night.

No one was injured during the incident and no charges were laid against the men up to midday Wednesday, according to the source.
