KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – This country on Saturday registered its third homicide this year.
Police here are investigating the rape and murder of Veronica Johnson, 73, of Great House, Lowmans Leeward.
Well-placed sources tell I-Witness News that the woman was raped and killed at her home in the West Kingstown community.
She was stabbed about 18 times about her body, sources say.
It is the second consecutive Saturday that 18 stabs have been inflicted on a female here.
Last Saturday, Kenisha Belgraves, 31, of Brighton survived an attacked in which she was also reportedly stabbed 18 times.
Claudine Simmons, 32, of Green Hill was also injured in that incident, which led to attempted murder charges being brought against Derrick Shawn John, 38, of Brighton.
John was on Thursday remanded in police custody pending a bail review on Feb 23.
This country registered its first murder of the year on Jan. 1 when Junior Lowman, 23, of Georgetown died just over a week after he was allegedly thrown into a copper cauldron of boiling water with his hands tied.
Three men have been charged with murder in relation to his Lowman’s death.
On Jan. 4, Alvisha Browne, a 19-year-old mother of three, died on the spot in Ottley Hall after receiving a bullet to the head. To date, no one has been charged in relation with that murder.
