KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Feb. 9, IWN — Fuel supplier SOL will host a regional ship to shore workshop at Sunset Shores Hotel from Tuesday to Friday.

Steve Francis, general manager of SOL, said the purpose of the workshop is to enhance participants’ understanding and working knowledge of ship to shore procedures and the competencies required to perform a tanker discharge or loading.

The main objective of the workshop is for participants to acquire and develop a working knowledge and understanding of the basic principles governing the safe operation of oil tankers and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and thus effectively complete a ship to shore check list with a certified officer appointed by the ship’s master, Francis said in a release.

The workshop will be based on the principles outlined in the International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals, the prime source of technical guidance for tankers and terminals as well as the Oil Companies International Marine Forum marine terminal baseline criteria.

Participants will be drawn from SOL participating countries, which include Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
