Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace has had to appear before Labour Department in connection with the dismissal of his former secretary in March.
The former secretary, Rishatha Nicholls, is claiming severance pay for the 11 years she worked with Eustace.
“My situation is before the Labour Department, so I am avoiding public comment,” she told I-Wintess News on Saturday.
She, however, said that she is seeking severance pay.
Eustace told I-Wintess News that the situation is before the Labour Department.
“I have held a meeting with them. They will have to decide whether or not they are going to call a board meeting,” Eustace told I-Witness News.
“She is contesting, I assume, her severance, because I fired her for cause, which means that she would not be eligible for severance. I gave the reasons for [dismissal],” he said.
He said he was comfortable that the law is on his side.
“If we agree on compensation, I will do it in accordance with the law,” he, however said.
