A minibus driver is in hospital nursing gunshot injuries he sustained when he was relieved of the day’s earnings and shot in the left leg on Saturday.
Osborne “Yabba” Hewitt, 36, of Vermont said the incident occurred at Bamboo Hole, between Rillan Hill and Penniston, around 9:15 p.m.
Hewitt said a drum was placed in the road and when he exited the vehicle to remove it, someone approached him and shot him.
He said that the assailant, who was wearing a mask, then grabbed a purse that Hewitt had slung across his chest.
The purse is said to have contained around EC$300.
Hewitt attempted to grab the attacker but the person tossed the purse to an accomplice and the both fled the scene.
Police are investigating.
