World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, will be commemorated under the theme “Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV infections; Zero AIDS-related Deaths and Zero Discrimination”.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment in collaboration with its partners will be hosting two health fairs, entitled “The Zero Zone”, to commemorate World AIDS Day 2013.

•Friday, Nov. 29: The Caribbean HIV and AIDS Alliance will be conducting an event at Heritage Square.

•Saturday, Nov. 30: Health Fair at the Barrouallie Playing Field

•Sunday, Dec. 1: Health Fair at the Georgetown Secondary School Grounds

It is expected that participants will leave these events with a greater appreciation for HIV/AIDS and its impact on the society as they learn about prevention strategies, HIV diagnosis, treating and caring for someone who is HIV positive.

Participants will also learn about HIV myths and misconceptions; HIV transmission, counselling and testing; stigma and discrimination and sexually transmitted infections.

Activities will include:

–Prevention and transmission activities

–Testing for HIV and blood sugar

–Blood pressure checks

–Physiotherapy Services (Georgetown Only)

–Stigma and Discrimination Awareness

Persons in the surrounding communities are invited to participate in the activities.
