“Information and communication” is the biggest challenge that health officials in St. Vincent and the Grenadines face amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simone Keizer-Beache said on Thursday.

“The challenges, I think we face are similar to the challenges that are faced throughout the world in terms of information and communication,” she said in response to a question.

“… we have all realised the way to conquer, and lots of persons have commented that COVID-19 has been a great equalizer where nations that are powerful and rich, are struggling in the same way as nations that are not as powerful.

“And the way to deal with it is basic public health. And a major part of basic public health is being able to communicate the messages of washing your hands and keeping basic hygiene,” she said.

“And then, I think that is a major challenge. Because we are up against lots of other voices, lots of other information that is distracting from what we intend to do,” the chief medical officer said at the press conference, the third since her ministry announced the first case of COVID-19 in SVG on March 11
