Opposition lawmaker St. Clair Leacock, has described as “disgraceful behaviour” and “an insult’ to the Parliament the absence of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves from the Budget Debate on Tuesday.

Gonsalves was absent as Leader of the Opposition, Godwin Friday led off the debate on the EC$1.6 billion fiscal package that Minister of Finance Camillo Gonsalves presented Monday evening.

Leacock, who is MP for Central Kingstown and a vice-president of the opposition New Democratic Party, which Friday leads, noted that the prime minister was also absent when Friday responded to the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure in December.
