Police at the Calliaqua Police Station say they have opened an investigation into a motor vehicle accident that resulted in the death of Racquel Williams, a 48-year-old sale clerk, of Diamond.

Police said on Tuesday that preliminary reports are that on Monday , about 1 p.m., Williams was traveling as a passenger in motor vehicle TM-705, a 3-ton truck owned by Vibert Bailey of Sion Hill and driven by Hubert Bailey of Sion Hill. 

The vehicle travelled from the direction of Diamond Public Poad going towards Harmony Hall.

The vehicle was midway up the hill when it encountered difficulties and began to roll back.

The driver tried steering the truck onto a wall while but doing so, William jumped from the pan of the truck where she was a passenger.

She proceeded to run downhill, away from the truck. However the truck overturned and fell on her. 

She was pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer. 

The driver and two other occupants of the vehicle escaped without injuries. The truck was extensively damaged.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on the body, police said. 

“The RSVGPF extends condolences to all who are negatively affected by this tragic incident,” polce further said.

Police are asking anyone with information that can assist the investigation to call police emergency at 911/999, the Calliaqua Police Station at 1-784-458-4200 , or any police station or police officer you are comfortable speaking with. 

“Your information will be treated confidentially. The investigation continues,” police said.
