Former South Central Windward MP, Allan Cruickshank died Saturday morning, his son, Allanson Cruickshank, said in a Facebook post.
“Unfortunately, our dad, Allan Cruickshank, passed away early this morning, March 1, 2025. We give thanks for the life he lived, the majority of which was spent in service to the nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as a teacher, principal, Member of Parliament, and Minister of Government,” the post said.
Cruickshank was an MP under the New Democratic Party administration from 1984 to 2001.
He served as minister of education, health, communications, works, agriculture, industry, labour, foreign affairs, tourism and information.
“We appreciate the overwhelming support that he received during his brief illness –those who gave blood (or attempted to), those who visited him, and the many prayers that were offered on his behalf,” Allanson Cruickshank said in the post.
“It is our hope that he made his calling and election sure, and we await the first resurrection.
“We will miss him: husband; father; grandfather; and, nation builder.”
No cause of death was disclosed, but Cruickshank, who was around 73 years old, had been in hospital and in need of blood, with a donation drive conducted on his behalf.
After quitting electoral politics, Cruickshank served as General Secretary of the NDP until 2017, when retired Coast Guard Commander Tyrone James defeated him in 2017.
May his soul RIP
