I am a young teacher and also a facilitator with the Adult and Continuing Education Department. Like many others in this country, it’s difficult to survive on a single salary, which is why several of us took on the added responsibility of teaching adult learners and preparing them for their CSEC exams.
After teaching from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, we push ourselves further, often tutoring into the night. Most of these sessions are held online, and we’ve had to provide extensive guidance, especially with SBAs. We’ve done our part with commitment and dedication.
That’s why it is disheartening and, quite frankly, disrespectful that we have not received any payment for this work, some of us not even a dollar since September of last year. It’s been over nine months, and despite repeated inquiries, we’ve received no clear answers or accountability from the relevant authorities.
We’ve continued to wait and hope, but nothing has changed. Meanwhile, the financial strain is unbearable. Many of us are dealing with loans, mortgages, and the cost of supporting our families. We fulfilled our responsibilities. The exams have already been completed by the students we supported, yet we remain unpaid.
This silence and delay have left us feeling undervalued and ignored. In a recent group discussion among facilitators, we agreed that perhaps the only way to get the attention we deserve is to take this matter public. We are not asking for handouts, we are demanding fair compensation for the honest work we’ve already done.
We are frustrated, and we need our payment now.

That’s so unfortunate. I am sure when the comrade( The Prime Minister)sees this.He will remedy it and pay all outstanding monies. Some people are not doing their jobs and make the Prime Minister looks bad.
Sorry ooh! There is no money in the kitty cause ah whole heap ah rodents in the treasury eating up all we tax-payers’ money. Ask Ralphie and Camille bout dat!
dem hard fo pay dem debts and do any maintainance , maybe dem telling you ah charity work.
Hey Gavin, what do you mean by the statement that “your “comrede” will pay all outstanding monies………and that people want to “make the Prime Minister looks bad”? Paying out monies for honest work his not one of his strong suit. You appear not to be aware of the goings-on in SVG as far as the actions of the PM towards the public servants- teachers, police officers, civil servants, when he FIRED HUNDREDS OF THEM simply because they legitimately refused to accept his horrible vaccine mandate; no other Caribbean Govt committed that wicked act on their own citizens. The PM has made himself look demonstrably callous and evil showing no sympathy, no compassion for the hundreds of dismissed govt workers, many of them lost their homes because of mortgage defaults; few of them have died because of grief and stress. So Gavin try putting yourself in these people’s shoes. Please extend your apparent concern beyond this one hardworking teacher to include all those dedicated govt workers whom he fired, refused to reinstate and without compensation.
ar yo ah volunteers, you all expect a sslary ? You all do not see anything as yet. If in my opinion dem can’t buy emergency drug like cough mixture, ventolin inhalation for nebulization, and others, is payment you all may get ?
