A Canada-based Vincentian promoter died Friday night at the scene in Arnos Vale when his car collided with another vehicle near the Girl High School, on the tarmac of the decommissioned ET Joshua Airport Friday night.
The death of Hy Ellis came one night before his show, “Water World: Water Ballons”, also in Arnos Vale.
Police said that Ellis’ vehicle, a white Mercedes-Benz AMG SUV, registration number P-222, flipped several times after the collision and landed on its roof.
In the statement on Sunday, police said preliminary investigation showed that about 7:15 p.m. on Friday, P-233, a blue Toyota Vitz car, owned and driven by Christopher Richardson, a 23-year-old police recruit of Mesopotamia travelling north along the decommissioned runway.
Ellis’ vehicle was heading south (towards the sea).
On reaching the vicinity of the Girls’ High School, Ellis’ car collided with the left side of the police recruit’s vehicle.
Ellis died at the scene, while Richardson complained of severe pain in the head and was transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), in Kingstown, for treatment.
Officers from the Traffic Branch and the Criminal Records Office processed the scene.
Police said a post mortem would be conducted on Ellis’ body and that the investigation was continuing.
“The RSVGPF extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time. We urged all motorists to drive with due care and attention and show courtesy to all road users,” police said.
The promoter is the second road fatality victim in St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the last month.
On May 29, about 5:20 p.m. on May 29, 2025, Somuro Richardson, a 23-year-old carpenter of Barrouallie, died after a collision involving two vehicles along Fountain stretch of the Vigie Highway.
Richardson was a front-seat passenger of a grey Toyota Vitz, registration number R-2274, driven by Orande Charles, a 22-year-old resident of Union Island, which was travelling towards Belair.
The car collided with TZ-592, a red Isuzu Truck owned by Rafique Dumber, of Villa, and driven by Kerry Codougan, of Brighton, which was travelling towards the Arnos Vale roundabout.
The driver and the passengers of R-2274 sustained serious injuries and were taken to MCMH, where Richardson died around 6:20 p.m.
The driver of TZ-592 was not injured, but both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
