The man who was shot and killed in Layou on Saturday has been identified as 23-year-old Questelles resident, Darrel Cummings.
Police had said that Cummings was a Chateaubelair resident, but one of his relatives told iWitness News on Monday that he is from Questelles.
Police said in a statement on Monday that they received a report at around 2:58 a.m. Saturday of gunfire in Layou.
“Officers responded and, a short time later, Mr. Cummings was located unresponsive at a nearby residence with apparent injuries consistent with gunshot wounds,” the police said in a press statement.
The district medical officer pronounced Cummings dead at the scene.
iWitness News understands that detectives are working with a theory that Cummings was attacked at or near an entertainment event in the Central Leeward town.
He then fled the scene in an attempt to escape his assailants but collapsed and died in a yard some distance away from where the shooting began.
