The police officer who is charged with attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend has been granted bail after initially being remanded in custody.
The officer, Constable Kyle Nimblett, 22, of Byera and Bequia, appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, where Senior Magistrate Colin John granted him bail.
Nimblett was initially denied bail on the indictable charges based on the prosecution’s objection when he appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Sept. 9.
The case was transferred to the Serious Offences Court and, on Tuesday, the prosecution withdrew its objection to his bail.
Nimblett was granted EC$30,000 bail with one surety and ordered to report to the Port Elizabeth Police Station on Mondays and Fridays.
The court also ordered him to have no contact with the virtual complainant and to surrender all travel documents.
The court also issued stop notices at ports of entry and exit.
His next court hearing is on Oct. 16.
Nimblet is charged that on Sept. 6, at Villa, he:
- with intent to commit the offence of murder on Rafia Sardine, of Villa, did an act which was more than preparatory to the commission of the offence;
- entered the dwelling house of Alicia Sardine, of Villa, as a trespasser and at the time had with him a weapon of offence to wit a knife; and,
- without lawful excuse, damaged one 3×2 ft aluminium sliding window valued at EC$400, the property of Alicia Sardine, of Villa, intending to damage such property.
