A Layou carpenter is slated to return to court on July 16 on an arson charge.
Ray Patterson, 44, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Colin John at the Serious Offences Court on June 8 on a charge that on June 5, at Layou, without lawful excuse, he destroyed by fire one 16×16 wooden dwelling house valued at EC$12,000, the property of Cardin Patterson, of Layou, intending to destroy such property.
He was also charged with destroying the house by fire, intending to endanger the life of another.
He was further charged that on June 5, at Layou, he destroyed by fire several items, with a total value of EC$10,970, the property of Resha Crooke, of Layou.
The items included one gas bottle, valued at EC$100; two full-sized mattresses, valued at EC$400 each; a quantity of clothing, valued at EC$6,000; textbooks valued at EC$500; and a tablet computer, valued at EC$300.
Patterson was charged on indictment and was not allowed to plead at that stage.
The magistrate set bail at EC$10,000 with one surety.
Additionally, Patterson is to report to the Layou Police Station on Tuesdays until the matter is disposed of.
He was also ordered not to have any contact with Crooke.
