St. Vincent and the Grenadines opened its campaign at the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers in impressive fashion on Wednesday, defeating Grenada 85-66 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana.
Team SVG delivered a composed performance on both ends of the floor to secure their first victory of the tournament and make a strong start in Group B competition.
Leading the way was rookie Shad Thomas, who turned in an outstanding all-around performance with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
Thomas recorded a double-double in his tournament debut, providing a spark offensively while making a significant impact on the defensive end.
The victory places St. Vincent and the Grenadines in a strong position as the team continues its quest for qualification to the FIBA AmeriCup 2029.
The national team will now turn its attention to Game Two, where it will face the Cayman Islands on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
