The Blue Marlins Swim Club continues to dominate local swimming in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, registering their sixth straight win with 1,345 points at the National Swim Championships from Aug. 27 to 30.
The club won five of the 10 age group individual championship trophies and three out of the six sprint challenge awards.
Jayce Thomas was awarded the boys 8 and under championship trophy and won the sprint challenge championship.
Skylar Byron took home both the individual award for girls 11-12 and the girls 9-12 sprint challenge trophy.
Belle Adams was crowned the girls 13-14 individual champion.
Tayeah St. Hilaire copped the girls 15-and-over individual award.
Hazen Da Briel captured the double award of the sprint for boys 13 and over and individual champion for boys 15 and over.
He also broke three national records:
· The male 15-16 200 m freestyle in a time of 1 minute 59.95 seconds.
· The male 15-16 400 m freestyle in a time of 4 minutes 15.96 seconds
· The male 15-16 50 m butterfly in a time of 26.01
The Blue Marlins swim club had other swimmers take to the podium in the individual championship category.
Raya Adams placed second in girls 8 and under.
Zane Da Briel and Rui Gordon secured second and third place, respectively in the boys 8 and under, making the club secure the top three spots in that age group.
Saige Jobe came in second for the girls 9-10, while Zoey May placed 3rd in the girls 11-12 age group.
Saj Caesar took second and Taj Henry third in the boys 11-12 age group.
Twenty-seven swimmers represented the Blue Marlins Swim Club at the meet and amassed 148 medals: 40 gold, 50 silver and 53 bronze.
Head Coach Tamarah St. Hilaire said that she was thrilled with her team’s sixth straight win.
The swimmers worked really hard, especially during their summer break and the win was the fruit of their labour, she said.
St. Hilaire said that the swimmers gave their very best, and she was extremely proud of them and could not ask for more.
She also congratulated the other local teams, stating that they were good competition, and from all looks of it, swimming in St Vincent and the Grenadines is here to stay.
Coaches Alyssa Davis, Henrietha Davis and Rickydene Alexander also helped to prepare the team for the competition.
